Date night doesn’t have to be hard, fancy, or expensive.
It just has to be a thoughtful night planned for just you two. Putting a little thought into a date night is bound to work wonders for both you and your partner!
Everyone loves a thoughtful night all planned out and to be shown how much they’re loved. And you can do all of this while staying at home!
Create a special date night at home and be inspired for more date nights to come with these date ideas:
- Date subscription box
These are the new thing (or at least I think so since these ads pop up on my Facebook and Instagram at least twice a day) and a huge life saver when you want to take a break from planning a meaningful date.
The date subscription box does all of the work for you! It plans out your date night and provides you with all of the supplies you need! For example, you could be sent a box for a “Camper’s Night” supplied with all of your smores needs (including a mini grill to roast the marshmallows), couples’ games, and more to set the mood!
With all of these subscription boxes, you can order one box on a monthly basis and not have to commit to 3-month or 6-month subscriptions (just remember to cancel your subscription after you receive your 1st box, that’s how companies sucker you lol).
Here’s some date subscription box options I like:
- Happily ($39.99/month)
- Digital dates (dates sent to your email) are available starting at $7.99
- You can rack up points by doing couples quizzes, for example, to use for a discount each month!
- Adventure Challenge box ($39.99/month)
- You will need to purchase the accompanying Couples-Edition Scratch-off book which I’ll talk more about later 🙂
- Crated With Love ($39.99/month)
- They sell card games as well as one-time boxes (not a subscription) for those of you who definitely won’t remember to cancel your subscription lol This box is specifically a pizza themed box, who doesn’t love pizza?
- Unbox Love ($45/month)
- Some dates correspond with where you live so you may never get the same box as someone else (so that means there’s plenty of options, you most likely won’t get the same box twice, and they’ll probably be specific to the area you live in!)
- Date scratch-off book
Date scratch-off books are a little similar to date subscription boxes because you don’t know what you’re going to get! The plus of having a scratch-off book is that it becomes a personal scrapbook detailing some of the fun dates you’ve had!
Mike and I just received our first book and I’m really excited to “scratch a date” before Valentine’s day, on Valentine’s day, and whatever days after (haha date nights are a priority in this house).
Here’s a couple of scratch-off books that I’ve been getting into:
- Scratch-off Date book
- They give you space to put pictures, write your thoughts or the most memorable moments during the date (for both of you), and mark the date so you never forget
- Adventure Challenge Scratch-off book
- This one is extra unique because with the Adventure Challenge scratch-off book, there will be dates marked with a pink gift box. This means there’s an adventure date box that can be sent to you with ALL of the supplies for THAT DATE!
They name each date so you know which date to scratch off for which date box! Just purchase the book and subscribe for the box. Wait to scratch off the dates (marked with a gift box) until you receive the gift box in the mail!
Adventure Challenge not only makes subscription boxes and scratch-off books for couples to create memorable experiences but they also have books you can scratch off if you want to do activities solo, with friends, or with family (fun for the whole gang)!!
- Cook a meal together (And Light Some Candles…Ooo La La)
Take a chance and chef up a new recipe together (the quickest way to anyone’s heart is through food!)!
I know some people just want to cook and get it over with or maybe your partner burns water but…SO WHAT?
Do it anyway! Try out a new experience with your partner and be open to the fun possibilities of cooking together. Decide what recipe you want to make before your planned date and stock up on the ingredients (no one wants to run out for missing items especially on a date).
Or if your partner is as cooking-challenged as mine (sorry, babe lol) then try an easier dish like making your own pizza! Light some candles and set the table to bolster a romantic evening around a meal made with love!
- Explore Your Sexual Possibilities
Do something you’ve always wanted to do with your partner…sexually.
For some reason, there’s still a little bit of taboo surrounding women talking about sex and whether they like it and what they enjoy doing when engaging in sex and blah blah.
But I’m here to say that’s some bull****!!
Love your body, explore your sexual needs, and EMBRACE who you are in all of your forms. Sex is one of those moments where you can shed your insecurities and just be raw (or you should be).
Look up some sex positions or different sexual techniques to explore and don’t just stay in the bedroom! Take your sex to new heights in the kitchen, on the couch, on the floor, in the shower…You get the idea, girl!
OR if you don’t know where to start (and because I obviously love subscription boxes), try out a Mystery pleasure box! This pleasure box comes equipped with a plethora of sex toys, lotions, and other bedroom accessories for you and your partner’s pleasure whether you’re in a relationship with the same sex or the opposite sex (you can choose boxes depending on your preference)!
It’s $59.99/month but considering how pricey sex items cost this is a steal (and they pack the box out with about 10 different things so you get the bang for your buck…literally haha)!
- Order in, Eat in Bed, Stay in Bed, Watch a Movie (In That Order)
Just like the subtitle says: order in, eat in bed, stay in bed, and watch a movie.
Make your date one where you stay in bed for at least 4 hours (easiest date ever, right?) It’s like Netflix and Chill but save the “chill” for when you don’t have food in your bed, sis.
Enjoy each other’s company and just be bad little kids again, eating in your bedroom when your parents told you not to (when you pay your own bills you eat where ya want). Order a feast for two or pig out and get all of your movie theater faves like popcorn and candy.
Check out this serving tray to elevate your food presentation and to provide a surface to hold the food (it also has a detachable pillow for your lap)!
- Game Night
Game night can be anything you want it to be!
It can be playing video games together (make it spicy and compete with each other), having a nerf gun war, investigating a murder mystery, doing a scavenger hunt, or it can be as simple as playing board games!
Pick your poison and have at it, it’ll be a fun night for the books!
Side note: For a scavenger hunt, you should use a timer and have a list of items to be found. Both you and your partner have to find specific items in your house during that time! Riddles are also a fun way to get people thinking harder as the items aren’t written out plainly for you.
Have each person pick items and write riddles of what the item could be. Exchange your lists and then start your timers! Make it interesting and try listing items that may be a litter harder to find (not like toilet paper lol).
- Paint N’ Sip (Yes, You Can Do This At Home)
If you’re looking for a night of doing something spontaneous and creative then try creating your own PAINT night!!
A paint nite (or a “paint n sip” if you want to get your drink on) is a perfect way to do a fun activity together, either make a joint art piece where your canvases create 1 image or paint 2 individual pieces with your own spin on it.
Get out of your comfort zone and paint something cool that you can cherish forever! You can either buy your own canvases, paint, and painting tools or order a kit with everything already included!
The Muse Paint Bar has a HUGE collection of art pieces you can choose from to paint. They also include the canvas, paint, paintbrushes, a mixing plate, and access to the guided video! It’s just like a normal Paint N’ Sip but just in your pjs!
- Drive-In Movie (In Your Driveway)
Hopefully, you have an SUV or larger because this may only be possible with cars with big trunks (unless you want to uncomfortably hang out the trunk of a little sedan).
Back your station wagon/hatchback/SUV/Minivan/Pick-up truck (or whatever large vehicle you own) into the driveway, open the trunk door, and set up the floor of your trunk for a cozy drive-in movie!
All you need is a portable projector with screen, a bunch of fluffy blankets, food and drinks (gotta always some good eatin’), a good movie, the love of your life, and that’s it!
The simplicity of just bringing the movie to the driveway can make all of the difference.
- Karaoke Night
Dance and sing your a** off in the comfortability of your home (and with the only one you can be goofy as hell with)!
Play lyric videos from your phone and serenade your love. If you’re feeling fancy, take it to the next level and load it to your TV for a true Karaoke aesthetic. These karaoke microphones are the perfect addition to add the right amount of karaoke vibes to your date!
- Picnic
Picnics are back and I honestly love this “new” trend! As we wait patiently to take the picnic outside, for now, we can take pleasures in having an indoor picnic!
Take your pick of locations since you have plenty of options! It can be in your living room in front of a fireplace (if you have one).
Or in front of a window with a gorgeous view.
Or on your balcony/any outside space in your home (weather permitting)…
Also, don’t forget to break out your picnic basket!
This picnic basket is cute and has a lot of compartments for carrying your goodies in one trip. It also includes a cutting board, a cheese knife, and a corkscrew for my wine and cheese lovers :).
Just pick any place in your home (with the best view) and plenty of room to set up a cozy spot on the floor with food and drinks galore to share for a romantic picnic with your partner!
- Spa Night In
I don’t know about you guys, but pre-pandemic Mike and I were massage junkies!
We made sure we would go as often as we could afford (sometimes 2-3x/month if we were feeling ourselves lol no shame) and it honestly does wonders for not only your physical health but your mental health.
I always walk out from a massage feeling like I’m literally walking on sunshine; my body’s loose, my mind’s clear, and I’m happier! Bring that same energy to the comforts of your home by doing it yourself!
Look up some recipes on Pinterest for homemade facials to fit your skin needs, draw a bubble bath with essential oils (and Epsom salts for a true spa experience), and get some massage oils so you and your partner can get some massage therapy going (big plus if you have a massage gun too so the machine can really put in work)!
This is an effortless, romantic way to spend time with your partner, fostering more intimacy between you two (you’re welcome 🙂 ).
- Food Run
Get food…but make it interesting!
Go on a food run where you take turns picking a place to eat for each course of your meal and then pig out in the car (try a game of rock, paper, scissors to spice it up and really make your partner earn their meal lol)!
This isn’t really a date “from home” but it’s a date from your car…which for some is a home away from home.
Drive out to a place with good vibes or a peaceful aesthetic (like anywhere by the water or a place you both love) and spend some time talking, eating, and just old-school chillin’ with your love.
The perks: you don’t have to get out and also don’t have to worry about other people watching you eat (but I say f*** ‘em! Slam that burger AND milkshake, sis).
- Tik Tok Q&A Couples Challenge
This is a trend that’s been going around a couple of months and it’s a fun way to see your partner’s reactions (and how they realllyyy feel about you lol).
Sit side-by-side then set up your phone to start recording (a tripod or someone recording for you makes it much easier). You should have questions already written out to respond to so when the question is asked you just point to the person who it describes best.
If you’re recording it yourselves, it’s fun to go back and watch the video to see your reactions (if someone else is recording it I’m sure their having a laugh, too)!
For example, the questions can be: “Who apologizes first after a fight? Who has the worst morning breath? Who’s funnier? Who’s more romantic? Who said I love you first? Who spends more money?” etc., etc., etc.
Get spicy with it, nothing is off limits (it’s all for sh*** and giggles anyway haha).
- Camp/Glamp & Stargaze
In your living room or actually get out in your backyard and really get the camp experience!
Get your biggest, fluffiest blankets, sleeping bags, or air mattress and camp right outside (camp in your living room if you’re not feeling that adventurous yet lol)!
If you don’t have a fire pit, roast smores with this smores kit (includes marshmallows, skewers, and a hibachi grill) to make the experience more authentic or make smores dip in the comfort of your oven (tbh, I think smores dip is so much better but you have to try it for yourself)!
Try one date or try them all, just don’t forget to actually make time for dates with your love! We become busier and busier (especially as we acquire kids and pets throughout time), so it can be easy to forget your partner sometimes. But don’t.
You can’t expect to spend a lifetime with someone if they’re always last priority on your list. Make each moment count and make your partner feel special when you can…your relationship only gets better and better with time with TLC and effort. With that, you’ll have plenty of special dates and incredible memories to look back on as the years go by!
